Maxime Van De Woestyne (1911-2000)
Maxime Van de Woestyne (1911-2000) was born in Louvain, Belgium.
He was the son of the famous Flemish expressionist painter
Gustave Van de Woestyne (1881 - 1947).
He was born in Louvain relocated to London during the war and later
moved to Mechelen, where his father was appointed director of
the Academy of Fine Arts.
Maxime had his first exhibition in 1931 at the Spring Fair of the Palais des Beaux-Arts in
Brussels, and had many exhibitions in Belgium and worldwide throughout his career.
His work was to some extent influenced by Rene Magritte and other surrealists and was assiduously acquired by a number of
Belgian collectors.
